Work begins on historic Parkers Piece in Cambridge

Work has started (July 2019) on footpath improvements including grass strengthening on the historic Parkers Piece in Cambridge.

The requirement for the work is due to the existing grass edges on both sides of the paths being damaged due to pedestrian, cycle overrun and vehicle traffic.

The work is due to last for up to 3 months and when complete will provide improved shaped resurfaced footpaths plus grass reinforcement along both sides of the two main paths.

This includes excavation,sub-base with geotextile surrounds, on top of this a sand bedding layer with grass reinforcement crates filled with topsoil and grass seed.

Parkers Piece isĀ  an important green space area around the city centre and it is also the place where the rules to Association Football were invented in the 19th Century.
